Pourtant on aurait pu penser qu’un \u00e9l\u00e8ve peut progresser l’ann\u00e9e du redoublement \u2014 puisqu’il refait le m\u00eame programme. Mais \u00e0 long terme, \u00ab le redoublement n’a pas d’effet sur les performances scolaires \u00bb, affirmait, en janvier 2015, le Conseil national d’\u00e9valuation du syst\u00e8me scolaire dans un rapport. Aujourd’hui, le nouveau ministre fran\u00e7ais de l’\u00e9ducation veut autoriser \u00e0 nouveau les conseils de classe \u00e0 faire redoubler les \u00e9l\u00e8ves qui ne sont pas au niveau. But in the long term, “grade repetition has no effect on school performance,” asserted the National Council for the Evaluation of the School System in a January 2015 report.
